This week's writing report:
I write weekdays from 6am to 7am Pacific. Join me!
Monday, 5/6:
Today’s oracle card: balance. “Finding compromise in being pulled in different directions.” I think the universe is trying to tell me something. Argued with myself for a few minutes about whether to reread or write forward, and chose the latter. Wrote a scene where both characters acted in an unrealistically happily-ever-after kind of way. Barf.
Tuesday, 5/7:
Um, I pulled the balance card again. Seriously, universe. I get it! Rewrote the scene from yesterday with more secretive and sneaky vibes. Who are these people? They need to figure their shit out. (Oh wait, that’s my job.)
Wednesday, 5/8:
Could NOT keep my eyes open today. Wrote in my journal with my eyes closed, which means now I can’t read it. Stood up and looked out the window, pondering the beginning, the midpoint and the dark night of the soul. As of now I have one of the three figured out.
Thursday, 5/9:
Definitely having an internal struggle between writing playfully to see what happens and my Type-A desire to know the answers. Spent 10 minutes brainstorming What ifs for the plot, then started a scene where the female character is crushing hard on the husband? boyfriend? of her best friend (while in a relationship with the other main character). It was really fun to write!
Friday, 5/10:
My writing ritual felt annoying today because I was looking forward to continuing the scene from yesterday…but I made myself do it anyway. Spent another 10 minutes on my What If brainstorm, using Story Oracle cards to prompt ideas. Then finished the scene from yesterday. It felt like a good end to a writing week.
I share this regular update because it is all progress. One sentence is progress. Showing up is progress. No one is doing "better" than you. I promise.
