This week's writing report:
I write weekdays from 6am to 7am Pacific. Join me!
Monday:
Feeling the Monday enthusiasm that I’m becoming familiar with. It’s a fresh start, awake and ready and full of vim and vigor. Also, I’ve slept a lot over the weekend, so getting up early isn’t too bad. Let’s do this! Wrote the first draft of this essay.
Tuesday:
Accidentally spent the first 15 minutes checking email. Boo! *slaps hand* Started a flash piece about tween girls at the swimming pool, but fell into the thesaurus because I really wasn’t sure what I was trying to say. Got a few words down, but mostly an unproductive session. *pouts*
Wednesday:
There are days when no one joins me on Zoom, but I write anyway. Today was not one of those days. I went back to bed. I’m noticing a pattern of enthusiastic energy at the beginning of the week, a “why bother” slump in the middle, and a pulling myself back up at the end. Curiouser and curiouser.
Thursday:
I didn’t open the internet! This is a win. Found myself longing for a day when my schedule will be entirely my own, but reversed course when the now-familiar flood of panic that my children are one day too soon not going to live here, and shook that longing right off like my dog shaking off water. Returned to the swimming piece with a freewrite to get to the heart of what it’s about. I’m not quite there, but close. Also added a couple of paragraphs.
Friday:
Darn it! Accidentally checked email again. But I didn’t spend as long there. The urge to not write was very, very strong, but I finished as much of the swimming piece as was needed to call it a first draft.
I share this regular update because it is all progress. One sentence is progress. Showing up is progress. No one is doing "better" than you. I promise.
